# Deleting Posts

> Manage archived posts, restore them, and optionally remove live posts from social platforms

When you delete a post, it's moved to **Trash** rather than being permanently removed. Archived posts stay in Trash for 30 days before being automatically deleted.

## Accessing Trash

From the Calendar view, open **Trash** from the sidebar under **All Posts** to view all archived posts in your workspace. Posts are listed with when they were archived and who archived them.

## Restoring posts

To restore an archived post:

1. Open the post from the Trash page
2. Click **Restore** in the alert banner when viewing an archived post

Restored posts return to your calendar and can be edited and scheduled as normal.

## Permanently deleting

Archived posts are automatically permanently deleted after 30 days. To delete immediately:

1. Open the archived post
2. Click **Delete Immediately** in the alert banner
3. Confirm the action

<Warning>
  Permanent deletion cannot be undone. The post and all its content will be removed from Ordinal.
</Warning>

## Removing live posts from social platforms

By default, archiving or permanently deleting a post in Ordinal does **not** remove the live post from the social platform it was published to. For supported channels, you can choose to delete the live post at the same time.

**Supported channels:** LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X, Threads

### From the Archive or Delete dialog

When you archive or permanently delete a published post that has a live link on a supported channel, the confirmation dialog shows a **Delete live post on the following channels as well?** section with a checkbox per channel:

1. Open the **...** menu on the post and select **Delete** (or **Delete Immediately** from Trash)
2. In the confirmation dialog, check the channel(s) you want to remove the live post from
3. Confirm

Use **View Post** next to each channel to open the live post in a new tab before confirming.

### From the post performance panel

You can also remove a live post without archiving it in Ordinal:

1. Open a published post
2. In the **Published Post** panel, open the **⋮** menu
3. Select **Delete from \[channel]** (for example, **Delete from LinkedIn** or **Delete from Facebook**)
4. Confirm

The live link clears from the post in Ordinal and the cached analytics for that channel are removed. The post itself stays in Ordinal so you can keep it for reference or duplicate it later.

<Warning>
  Deleting a live post on a social platform cannot be undone. If the platform delete fails, the Ordinal action (archive, delete, or live-post removal) still completes and a warning toast surfaces the error so you can retry.
</Warning>

## What gets archived

* **Posts and ideas** — Both can be archived from the same menu
* **Scheduled posts** — Archiving cancels the scheduled publish
* **Published posts** — By default, archiving in Ordinal does not remove the post from social platforms. To also remove it from a supported channel, see [Deleting live posts on social platforms](#deleting-live-posts-on-social-platforms).

## Deleting live posts on social platforms

When you move a post to Trash or permanently delete it, Ordinal can also delete the live post from the connected social platform in the same step. This is useful when you want to fully remove a published post — not just hide it from your Ordinal calendar.

This option only appears for posts that have already been published to a supported channel (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X, or Threads) connected to your workspace.

To delete a live social post:

1. Open the post and click **Move to Trash** or **Delete Immediately**.
2. In the confirmation modal, under **Delete live post on the following channels as well?**, select each channel you want to remove the live post from.
3. Confirm the action.

Use **View Post** next to each channel to open the live post on the platform before deleting.

For Twitter/X and Threads posts published as a thread, deleting the root post removes every post in the thread. Child posts are deleted before the root so the thread is torn down cleanly.

<Warning>
  Deleting a live post on a social platform cannot be undone. Engagement (likes, comments, reposts, replies) on the live post is permanently lost.
</Warning>

If a channel is not selected in the dialog, the post is only removed from Ordinal and stays live on that platform.

### Reconnecting a disconnected integration

If the integration for a channel has expired or been disconnected, the live delete will fail and Ordinal will flag the integration as needing reconnection. Reconnect the account from **Social Profiles**, then retry the delete.

If the live post was already removed on the platform (for example, deleted directly from LinkedIn or X), Ordinal treats the delete as successful and clears the local link so your data stays in sync.
